Job Summary

The ECAD Library Engineer is responsible for creating, validating, and maintaining schematic symbols and PCB footprints in compliance with company standards and IPC guidelines. This role requires close collaboration with hardware engineers, PCB layout designers, and component librarians to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness of library data. The engineer also contributes to process improvement, automation initiatives, and documentation to support efficient design workflows and minimize errors during schematic capture and PCB layout.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Create, verify, and maintain schematic symbols and PCB footprints in OrCAD/Allegro libraries according to company and IPC standards.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers, PCB designers, and librarians to ensure accurate and consistent library data.
  • Perform quality checks to validate electrical, mechanical, and functional attributes of components.
  • Manage symbol/footprint requests and deliver them within agreed timelines.
  • Support automation tools and scripts to improve efficiency and accuracy in library creation.
  • Document processes, guidelines, and best practices for library management.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve symbol/footprint-related issues during schematic capture or PCB layout.
  • Continuously improve workflows to enhance productivity and reduce design errors.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electronics, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in schematic symbol and PCB footprint creation using OrCAD/Allegro or similar EDA tools.
  • Familiarity with IPC standards for schematic symbols and land pattern design.
  • Experience working with hardware design teams and PCB layout engineers.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Ability to manage multiple requests and deliver within deadlines.
  • Good communication skills in English (written and read).
  • Ability to create manufacturing-ready footprints and not rely solely on datasheet reference patterns.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Proficiency in OrCAD Capture and Allegro PCB Editor.
  • Knowledge of schematic symbols, footprints, 3D models, and component attributes.
  • Understanding of PCB design processes and manufacturing constraints.
  • Familiarity with version control systems and database management tools.
  • Awareness of electrical, mechanical, and thermal design considerations.

Technical Knowledge & Skills

  • Proficiency in OrCAD Capture and Allegro PCB Editor for schematic symbol and footprint development.
  • Strong knowledge of IPC standards (e.g., IPC-7351 for land pattern design, IPC-610 for assembly requirements).
  • Experience in managing and maintaining component libraries, including symbols, footprints, and 3D models.
  • Familiarity with CAD library validation, quality checks, and design rule compliance.
  • Understanding of PCB design flow, from schematic capture to PCB layout and manufacturing.
  • Strong problem-solving ability in troubleshooting library-related design issues.

Non-Technical Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy and consistency.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work under tight deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Team-oriented mindset with willingness to share knowledge and support colleagues.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to adjust to changing project requirements or priorities.
  • Good documentation and organizational skills.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electronics, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 2–5 years of experience in schematic symbol and PCB footprint creation using OrCAD/Allegro or equivalent EDA tools.
  • Hands-on experience in managing component libraries, including symbols, footprints, and 3D models.
  • Familiarity with IPC standards and PCB manufacturing processes.
  • Experience working with cross-functional engineering teams (hardware, layout, mechanical, and manufacturing).
  • Prior experience with scripting/programming for library automation is a plus.
  • Experience in electronics or semiconductor industry preferred.
