Technical Leadership and SMT Expertise

  • Serve as the principal technical authority for SMT manufacturing processes and related assembly technologies.
  • Provide advanced engineering leadership for complex manufacturing challenges involving quality, yield, reliability, throughput, and productivity.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to Manufacturing Engineers, Process Engineers, NPI Engineers, and Operations teams.
  • Drive standardization and deployment of best practices across multiple production lines, programs, and manufacturing sites.
  • Lead cross-functional engineering initiatives involving Manufacturing, Quality, Design Engineering, Supply Chain, and Operations.

SMT Process Ownership and Optimization

  • Own and continuously improve all SMT manufacturing processes including:
    • Solder Paste Printing
    • Solder Paste Inspection (SPI)
    • Component Placement
    • Reflow Soldering
    • Automated Optical Inspection (AOI)
    • X-Ray Inspection
    • Selective Soldering
    • Electronic Assembly and Secondary Operations
  • Establish process targets, control strategies, and validation methodologies to ensure robust and repeatable manufacturing performance.
  • Develop advanced process characterization studies and optimize critical process parameters.
  • Drive process capability improvements through the application of statistical analysis and data-driven decision-making.
  • Lead initiatives focused on reducing defects, variation, scrap, rework, and manufacturing costs.

New Product Introduction (NPI) and Manufacturing Readiness

  • Lead manufacturing engineering activities during new product introduction and technology transfer.
  • Conduct Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Testability (DFT) reviews.
  • Develop manufacturing strategies to support new technologies, complex assemblies, and high-reliability products.
  • Define process validation requirements, qualification plans, and acceptance criteria.
  • Ensure successful production ramp-up while achieving yield, quality, and cycle-time objectives.

Advanced Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement

  • Lead root cause investigations for critical manufacturing and customer-related issues.
  • Utilize advanced problem-solving methodologies including:
    • Six Sigma
    • DMAIC
    • Design of Experiments (DOE)
    • PFMEA
    • Statistical Process Control (SPC)
    • 8D Corrective Action
    • Failure Analysis Techniques
  • Analyze manufacturing data to identify systemic improvement opportunities.
  • Lead strategic projects focused on automation, Industry 4.0 implementation, and Smart Factory initiatives.

SMT Equipment and Technology Development

  • Provide technical oversight for SMT process equipment selection, qualification, validation, and deployment.
  • Evaluate and implement emerging manufacturing technologies to improve capability and competitiveness.
  • Collaborate with equipment suppliers to optimize machine performance and process capability.
  • Support development of long-term technology roadmaps aligned with business growth objectives.
  • Define equipment requirements for future products and manufacturing capacity expansions.

Quality, Reliability, and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with customer requirements, industry standards, and regulatory expectations.
  • Drive manufacturing process improvements to achieve world-class quality performance.
  • Support customer audits, technical reviews, and manufacturing assessments.
  • Lead implementation and sustainment of:
    • PFMEA
    • Control Plans
    • Process Validation Documentation
    • IPC Compliance Requirements
  • Support reliability and failure analysis activities related to SMT manufacturing processes.

Strategic Business Support

  • Support quotation and business development activities through manufacturing assessments and technical risk evaluations.
  • Provide engineering expertise for high-complexity customer opportunities and advanced technology programs.
  • Participate in manufacturing strategy development and capacity planning initiatives.
  • Recommend investments in equipment, automation, and process technologies to support long-term growth.

Industry Leadership and Innovation

  • Maintain expert knowledge of SMT manufacturing technologies, materials, equipment, and industry trends.
  • Participate in industry organizations, technical forums, and professional development activities.
  • Drive innovation initiatives that improve manufacturing capability, efficiency, and competitiveness.
  • Publish technical papers, participate in industry conferences, and represent the organization as a recognized technical expert when appropriate.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline required.
  • Minimum 9+ years of experience in electronics manufacturing, SMT process engineering, or advanced manufacturing engineering.
  • Extensive experience in high-volume, high-mix electronics manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated success leading major yield improvement, automation, NPI, and process optimization initiatives.
